Craft of the Month
July '08Navi Finger Puppet
NAVI! You're so annoying, but deap down inside we all love you.
This is a great craft for anyone who likes to wear a costume to a comic
convention or a party and is short on cash.
You could also use this as a holloween costume or just wear it around
the house like I do! ...>.>
ANYWHO! I'm planning on wearing this costume to Wizard World! ...even
though that's very far away.
Materials:
1. Trash bag
2. 2-3 3in. Styrofoam Balls
3. Navi Blue glitter glue
4. Wire (your choice in color)
5. Knife (optional)
6. Really thin threading needle
7. Really thick threading needle
8. Thread
9. Invisible Tape
10. Saran Wrap
11. Scissors
12. Finger
Instructions:
Place an open trash bag on your lap, this first part is messy. [photo
78] Then use the knife to stab Navi and twist for a finger-sized hole.
[photo 80] [photo 81] Cut out wire and loosely shape to wing with the
ends bent outwards [photo 82]. Make all four wings and insert them into
the styrofoam ball. Don't just shove them in though, the ends are bent outward so that when you insert them and push the wire straight in
they will be bent inside navi and not slip out. Also, make sure you're careful about where you put the wings according to where your
finger is in the body. [photo 84] Cut wire with one curved tip to be the
stem of the wing's ribbing. [photo 86] Cut another ball into little
peices. [photo 87] make them into little balls of different sizes to act as Navi's trail of faerie dust.
[photo
88] [photo 89] Use the glitter glue to color these balls. [photo 90]
Don't be afraid to get the glue on your fingers. Now do the same to the
body [photo 91]. Wait a little while and then add a second coat. Then
let them dry overnight. [photo 93] [photo 94]. Arrange the faerie dust
how you would like it to hang from Navi's body [photo 95]. Thread
invisible string through fairy dust following how you would like them to hang
[photo 98] Then stab the string through Navi [photo99] Then use the
really thick needle to push it through to the other side [photo 100]. SO
FAR! [photo 101] Then get the tape! [photo 102] Cut and measure wire
that will be the ribbing of the wings [photo 104]. Tape the bent wire to
the wing cage [photo 105] [photo 103]. Saran wrap [photo 107] should be
cut into fourths [photo 108] Cover the wings with the saran wrap [photo
110]. Cut off the excess saran wrap [photo 112]. Tape the saran wrap
around the wings [photo 113] Put some glitter glue on the tips of the
wings [photo 114]. And that's it! [photo 115]
Have fun with it and enjoy. People will love your witty costume. Just
make sure you put a plug in for where you got the idea, and make sure
you come back again for all your Zelda inspired craft needs!
